Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS) is a local Ghanaian Non Profit Making Organization (NGO) established in Ghana in 2003. GINKS was born out of a collaboration between the International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD) and its local partners in Ghana, with the aim of streamlining all the disjointed ICT projects, initiatives and programs in Ghana, in a way that provides solutions to challenges and problems.
As a network of individuals and organizations involved in ICT, the network provides great opportunities for advocacy on issues that affect the ICT community as a whole. Through its activities and programmes, the network is able to identify and support specific issues for advocacy and thus help in policy on ICT and ICT4D in Ghana (www.ginks.org).
GINKS has a vision of a society where all have equal access and use of ICT for national development and a mission to establish a platform committed to promote, create and provide knowledge for all through the use of ICTs for national development in Ghana.
GINKS has been very successful in undertaking activities to enhance knowledge sharing as well as ICT policy advocacy and capacity building in Ghana. The organization does this through its thematic areas of operation such as ICT in Health, ICT in Education, Agriculture, Gender and Youth and also conduct ICT related research works and organize seminars, fora, workshops and capacity trainings for organizations, institutions, research scientists, health workers, students, journalist, policy makers etc.
GINKS has a strong partnership with other international organizations to implement various projects under our thematic areas. These international bodies are International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), Development Research Centre (IDRC), Technical Center for Rural and Agricultural Cooperation (CTA), International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP), Akvo etc.
GINKS as part of its knowledge sharing effort produces a monthly newsletter dubbed “iconnect” to disseminate of relevant ICT4D stories, news and articles to Government departments and agencies, educational centers, libraries, institutions and the general public.
GINKS also has a one stop email based Discussion Group (Dgroups) for the elite community in Ghana for effective communication on ICT related topics. Membership is FREE and open to all countries and can be accessed at this link. GINKS has one of the most active video blog for the promotion of ICT4D in Ghana and also has a twitter account.
Since May the C4C consortium has been working together with GINKS in Ghana. GINKS assists the local C4C partners in keeping their Akvo RSR projects up to date by helping them to write photo- and video updates that are visible at their project page. The latest updates can be seen at the Ghana country page.
